Boy's under 16's bow out with exciting encounter against Queensbury

Today, Sunday, 21 October 2018, saw the last ever game between the boy's under 16's of both West Leeds Eagle's and Queensbury ARLFC's.

The weather played it's part, it was a nice sunny day, ideal for rugby league, and supporter's turned out in good numbers from both club's to bid the boy's farewell at this age level of the game which provided a noisy, friendly atmosphere fit for the occasion.

The game itself had its moment's, with some exciting rugby being played. It was an emotional day for both club's, and at times saw some aggressive play, but it was not an ill tempered affair, with both sides showing respect for each other.

In summing up the day, it is best left to the word's of the Eagle's coach, Andy Smith, who wrote:
“Well that’s it, the final game is done and dusted. Many will look at our game today and assume it wasn’t the fairy tale ending we were hoping for, having lost 24-16 to a good Queensbury side.

However, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Before the game I gave the lads a message. The same message I gave them when I first joined the team 5 years ago... to go out and enjoy themselves. Today wasn’t about who won and who lost, it was about a group of young men running about on a pitch with their mates. Far too many coach's get hung up on achievements, trophies and such, and forget the reason why the lads come week in week out... their unconditional love for rugby league. That’s what I saw today, and that’s why we all came off the pitch with a smile on our faces. And I was damn proud of each and every one of them.

A huge thank you to all those who came and supported the guys for today's game. Hopefully we will see you all on 17th November for presentation night. All players, coach's and supporters past and present are welcome to join us for the evening.”

At the presentation after the game, a donation from west Leeds was presented to Queensbury to the Harry Sykes fund. Not a dry eye in the room was to be seen. Just shows what rugby league is all about, one huge family regardless of the colours we wear.
