A game to be proud of today, it was end to end rugby which, given the lack of numbers, was an absolute nightmare because it meant a lot of hard work without any substitutes to rely on to relieve tired legs. But every one of you dug deep ,and stuck it out for the full 80 minutes!
The squad travelled to Dewsbury with a number of forwards missing for the game,so the team had to look to other players to step up and become leaders on the field. Chloe Dennison and Lauren Powell stepped in at short notice to bolster a depleted squad, and both players put in superb performances which made a tremendous contribution to the team.
Lauren, who played seventy minutes of the game added a first to the Powell family, when she appeared alongside her sister for the first time, and celebrated the occasion by crossing for a superb try.
Every player in the pack flourished, but the player who stood out was Holly 'Amy' James, who’s work rate and communication was outstanding today, and Fully deserved the coaches award.
Player of the match was Sam Trenaman who, from the moment she stopped onto the pitch, tore through the defence like a knife through butter. An outstanding performance capped off with four fantastic long range tries.
A special mention must also go to Tiffany Turner who, In the final moments of the game made an outstanding try saving tackle, despite the fact that it would have made no difference to the result. So much was this effort appreciated, that a member of the opposing team took time to comment on this feat, and made a special compliment for her outstanding effort so late in the game.
On the downside, Sarah Louise Barford ended the game with a broken finger and will be out for a short time, we wish her well, and a speedy recovery.
