West Leeds players make their mark in record breaking year

2018 was a record breaking year for the youngsters at West Leeds Eagles, with seven of our under 14's boy's making history by signing Scholarships with professional clubs.

All at the club are extremely proud of each player. Their hard work, commitment, determination, love of rugby league, and love and loyalty to the club was rewarded when it was announced they had gained these Scholarship places.

It goes without saying that the hard work put in by the Coaches, Craig Boot, and Jazz Chana, along with Team Manager Scott McLachlan, played an huge part in this success, and full credit for their dedication, passion in coaching, supporting and guiding the lads, helped open up these opportunities for the boy's and is, without doubt, reward in itself.

The Scholarship Players from West Leeds U14’s 2018 were:
Codey Downey (Huddersfield Giants), Robbie Mann (Wakefield Trinity Wildcats), Caine Glancy (Leeds Rhino's), Liam Lether, Kyle Andrews, Walker and Kelby Hayward (Bradford Bulls).

On Wednesday, 19 September, the Eagle's first ever player to gain a Leeds Rhino's Scholarship, Caine Glancy, attended his launch night at Headingley accompanied by his Mother, Becky, grandparents (Janet and Jim), coach's Craig Boot and Jazz Chana, and Under 14's manager, Scott Mclachlan.

The evening saw Caine being officially congratulated and presented with his Rhino's shirt, and was followed by speech's from Ashton Golding, Jack Walker, Mikolaj Oldedski, Rob Burrows and Kevin Sinfield, which was followed by drinks and photograph opportunities.

Caine, as previously mentioned, was one of seven players to have won Scholarships this year, but we seem to have a wealth of talented players at West Leeds. Cormac Lawton, who joined the club five years ago, is currently training with Wakefield Trinity, and young Conner Kay Mills recently represented his school, Castleford Academy.

It's not just the boy's either, the exploits of our girl's continue to make the headlines, with Brogan Townsley-Parker who, after a four week trial period was rewarded with an Under 19's Academy contract, and Sophie Nuttall, a back who went to the Royds High School, and began playing her rugby at West Leeds, is also a Rhino's Academy player. Both women enjoyed a successful first season with the Rhino's

Taking the topic even further, at the Women's Open Age level, we have another former Eagle who has had a tremendous season at Super League Level with the Rhino's, and both Sarah-Louise Barford, and our current skipper, Kirsty Mills, now play for Featherstone at this level of the game.

It seems we have a wealth of talented players at ll levels at West Leeds, and having spoken to coach's and manager's at other levels, they predict a bright future for the club in producing quality players of the future.

As a footnote, the various age groups are always pleased to welcome new players, age 7 years to open age, and would always spend time showing people around and introducing interested player/s or parents to our qualified coach's, who are always pleased to spend time in answering any questions you may have. Please contact one of our friendly officials.
