Playing winter rugby at both Youth and Junior level

Playing winter rugby at both Youth and Junior level

As has been previously announced, the Yorkshire Youth ARL has been asked by many their members to run a winter league for the junior clubs. Yorkshire Youth ARL has now received demand from outside their normal districts of Yorkshire, Hull and West Riding so would like to offer this opportunity to all clubs playing at Youth and Junior level. With this in mind the Yorkshire Youth ARL management has agreed to propose the following:

Under 7’s to Under 10’s - playing between the months; March – September
Yorkshire Youth ARL will provide fixtures for these age groups which will be regionalised, for example teams from Castleford and district will play other teams in Castleford and district. So at these age groups not a lot of long distance travelling will be taken place.

Under 11’s to Under 15’s - playing between the months; September – April/May
At these age groups Yorkshire Youth ARL will organise fixtures so that teams from Yorkshire will play other teams in Yorkshire, and the same for teams in West Riding and Hull & District etc. Giving the players experience in playing other teams at there age. These age groups will be split into different divisions in each of the regions, so for example, in the top division for Yorkshire, there would be the top 2 or 3 teams in the Leeds, Castleford, Dewsbury, York etc areas playing each other, then the next 2 or 3 teams in the next division down etc.

At the end of each season we would then look at how the teams do and move them up or down for the following season to giving the opportunity to play different teams again.

Under 16’s to Under 18’s - playing between the months; September – April/May
At these age groups the proven, current structure will still be in place. Therefore teams from all districts will be placed into several different divisions, so teams could be playing teams from Bradford, Halifax, Hull, and Leeds etc. Giving the players even move experience before the large jump into Open Age.

Additions
As well as all the above, in the Yorkshire Combination league at the moment in Under 16’s to Under 18’s there are a lot of Cups to be played for. We will be looking at extending these cups down most of the Age Groups if not through them all. We are also sourcing sponsors for these cups, which would offer a better cup competition through out all rounds including grounds for the cup finals.

Yours in Sport,
Yorkshire Youth ARL Management
