A combined Oulton Raidettes-West Leeds Eagles miss out on tries scored

Saturday, 24 July 2021 will go down as one of the highlights of the 2021 season for the West Leeds Under 11’s girls Squad.

Despite injuries and players forced to withdraw at the last minute, the girls made the short journey over to Oulton to take part in the Raider’s Girls Rugby League Festival. With Oulton also suffering late withdrawals of players the Raidettes and Eagles put out a combined team to enable the youngsters to gain experience, and participate in the tournament, and they didn’t disappoint.

Not only did the team face some of the biggest clubs in the game; the likes of Leigh Miners, Featherstone and a strong Batley Girls team, they more than matched their opponents, and only just failed to make the final of their section on the number of tries scored. The experience gained will be invaluable to the girls as they continue the progress made in such a short time. After the game, opposing coach’s had nothing but praise for the girls efforts and commitment, knowing that a number of the girls had only previously played a couple of games of rugby league Some really exciting rugby was witnessed in what was a well organised tournament by the Oulton club, with new friendships being forged with girl’s from all teams mixing and enjoying what was a great day. With more tournaments, fun days and games being planned for the remainder of the season, the future looks promising as the Eagle’s continue to build, and it is hoped injuries will clear quickly to allow the coach’s the opportunity of fielding a full team for the remainder of the season.
