A battling display from the Eagles ladies brought them victory over neighbours South Leeds Spartans on Sunday. The condition of the pitch, due to recent weather, brought problems for the players from both teams, but the Eagle's took up the challenge, dug in and worked hard as a team to win two hard earned, and deserved points.
The work rate across the whole team was sensational, but there were times when players clearly looked tired, something that was to be expected playing in such difficult conditions and with no subs being available for this particular game due to absentee's throiugh injury and work. Nonetheless this was a great performance with everyone playing a vital role to cap a superb all-round performance.
Captain Sam Trenaman was named Player Of the Match after an outstanding performance which brought her a hat trick of tries. With Sarah-Louise Barford, Chelsea-Leigh Hall and Leah McFarlane all going over for a try apiece. Han Carty converted two from five kicks.
Kim Clowes was awarded the coach's Player Of the Match after a superb performance, and was described as 'being on fire' with her defensive performance.
Coach, Andy Smith, compared the completion rate as 20/30 (67%) as a comparison to the Leeds Rhinos completion rate at 72% against Warrington Wolves! Penalties conceded was two, with ten knock-ons.
On the tackle side, Ellena Powell led the way with thirty one, with Chelsea-leigh Hall with thirty, Kim Clowes with nineteen, Sarah-Louise Barford with seventeen and Holly 'Amy' James with fifteen.
On hit ups Sam Trenaman (25), Ellena Powell (19), Sarah-Louise Barford (13), Kim Clowes (12) and Chelsea-Leigh Hall (11).
The Ladies next fixture is scheduled for 10 February when they travel to Keighley to take on the Albion. Kick-off is 2 pm.
