Eagles Ladies overcame a lively Illingworth side to give coach, Mick Powell, his first win in charge

In one of the most exciting games seen so far this season the Eagles ladies produced one of their best performances against a lively Illingworth team to give coach, Mick Powell, his first win in charge, with a 28-8 scoreline It was certainly an edge of seat style encounter which saw both sides produce some exciting, and often uncompromising, rugby league.

After the game, Mick Powell, wrote “We earned that today ladies, we took the game to them straight away, communications were excellent, with a lot of talking between the players on the pitch. line speed, and the defence fell into place today.

I must say thank you to you all for giving me my first win as your coach, with thanks to Lucy Butterfield for assisting today. An absolute immense game today girls! We played as a team and we worked hard for each other. Every single one of you should be so proud! The best is yet to come ladies.”

A mention for the match official, referee Mr. D. Crampton, who had a very good outing in the middle, allowing the game to flow at a steady pace.

On the downside, Leah McFarlane received a bang to her cheek during the game . Leah was fine until arriving home from work with her face all swollen and was having pain behind her eye with some dizziness. After a visit to A&E to be checked out, they found no break to cheek bone, but was badly bruised with concussion, this will keep her out of action for at least 2 weeks, our best wishes to Leah, and the other girls still on the injured list.
