Sombre moment in memory of Natalie Harrowell is followed by cracking end of year league fixture

Sunday,12 December 2021
Division One.

Squads:
West Leeds Eagles - Amelia Alexander, Sarah Garland, Abbie Benn, Chanel Bould, Lucy Butterfield, EviemCarrington-Hobson, Emma Clixby, Lauren Exley, Tullyann Flint, Beatriz Furtado, Leah McFarlane, Kayleigh Moore, Jackie Sedgwick, Brogan Townsley-Parker, Ellie Mae Wainhouse, Georgia Waterhouse, Ellena Powell.

The last fixture of 2021 saw the Eagle’s ladies take to the road with a visit to table toppers Featherstone Lionesses, In what would be one of of their most challenging games against a team in top form, the Eagles ladies gave a tremendous performance which pleased the coach’s, Mick Powell and Joe Wainhouse, and also brought praise from the opposition camp.

Before the game a sombre minutes silence was observed in memory of Natalie Harrowell, a Lioness who sadly lost her own battle with life two years ago. The Eagle’s coach, Mick Powell, also presented the club with flowers to mark the occasion.

The Eagle’s worked hard against a strong team, a performance to be proud of by a squad which people are beginning to take seriously as a side which can do well in next seasons summer league.

West Leeds put in a massive effort and kept the Lionesses within the twenty point margin. Abbie Benn put in an extra shift to help out when needs despite not going to play through injury, also Lauren and Emma sustained leg injuries which didn’t help, and we hope they all make a full recovery during the seasonal break.

The home side were a very accomplished team, and the outstanding highlights for them must surely be the two tries by Gabby Harrison, who scored two identical tries, one in each half, when she ran the full length of the field on each occasion. A display to be proud of after being told she would never run and play rugby again, a magnificent achievement by a talented young lady.

The half time score was 20-10 with tries for Leah McFarlane and Ellena Powell, and a goal kicked by Ellie-mae Wainhouse. Second half scores were added by Abbi Benn and Jacqueline Sedgwick,

For this last game of the year, votes for the following were submitted to which we thank all concerned:
