Presentation and fund raiser brings eagles ladies summer season to a close

On Saturday, 16 October, 2021 the West Leeds Eagles Open Age Ladies presentation evening took place at the Liberal Club in Wortley. The event was a great success for the organisers and sponsors Cheney Payroll Services. The attendance was very good. The coach, Mick Powell's, speech was invigorating, interesting and sprinkled with anecdotes which kept peoples attention. The buffet offered up a variety of food stuffs, and the fund raising for St Gemma's Hospice exceeded expectations, and the venue, The Liberal Club in Wortley, was accessible with friendly, helpful staff.

The occasion brought out genuine emotion, appreciation and camaraderie from all those present, with new friendships being formed, and old friendships renewed, with news and gossip in plentiful supply. The ladies were stunning as always, the men folk.....well, they had little option than to sit back, enjoy a pint, and let the ladies do their own thing, it was a ladies presentation event after all!

The awards were fully deserved, and congratulations to those players, we must also congratulate all the players in the squad who worked and played hard to bring us a season which saw some memorable tries and some exciting rugby. Overall it turned out to be one of the best presentation evenings for a long time.

The awards, presented by head coach, Mick Powell, were as follows: Congratulations
to our trophy winners:
Rising Star - Beatriz Furtado
Back of the Year - Amelia Alexander
Forward of the Year - Kayleigh Moore
Coaches Player - Elizabeth Perrin
Woman of Steel - Holly 'Amy' James
Player's Player - Kayleigh Moore.

The summer season is now confined to history, and everyone connected with the club move on. We have entered the winter league, with a squad of players who, hopefully, will have gained experiences through their summer league games, a squad which begins the winter season with hopes of doing well, building, perhaps, for a future which will surpass, or emulate, past winter teams that went on to achieve great things, and renewing old rivalries and friendships with clubs. Exciting and interesting times ahead, as the hopes of a new HQ building being completed, and not only for our Ladies squad, but for all age groups, and the club as a whole, Thank you all for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at our winter games. Wrap up well people, the forecast is a chilly one, but our players hope to provide you with some great rugby to keep your enthusiasm heated!
